Jonathan Liljeblad holds a PhD and JD from the University of Southern California and a BS from the California Institute of Technology. His research focuses on the challenges of promoting international norms in developing countries, with specific attention to cases of indigenous rights, human rights, and environmental issues. His field work is in Southeast Asia, where his research is supported by international organizations such as the Asia-Development Bank, Danish Institute of Human Rights, International Commission of Jurists, and Konrad Adenauer Stiftung. Since 2014, he has provided capacity-building and analysis for indigenous rights groups in Myanmar. He was born as a member of the Pa’Oh indigenous peoples of Shan State, Myanmar, and grew up in Sweden and the United States.
